About this deal

At half the weight (~300 grams) and half the travel (20mm) of most squishy posts, it performs closer to the best carbon seatposts available. This is simply due to the higher percentage of weight on your saddle. Conversely, if you have more weight on your hands because you ride in a more sporty position, you can get away with less suspension travel. Best Suspension Seatposts Coil Sprung The CF Allroad Pro Carbon Seatpost concept is simple: two carbon halves form a 27.2mm seatpost and flex to absorb potholes and road chatter. Most seatposts have the diameter printed somewhere near the bottom of the post. You'll need to remove the seatpost from the bike frame (mark your existing seatpost height with a bit of tape before you remove it so you can replace it easily), and look for a number like 27.2, 30.9, or 31.6 (etc.). That is the diameter of the post. Because my shoulders remained at the same height, changing the seatpost has not directly affected my aerodynamics. However, the improved comfort and sustainability of using the aerobar position allows me to stay in that position for longer and so it yields indirect aerodynamic gains.

Until now, the Ergon seatpost has been specced on some Canyon bikes, known as the ‘VCLS’ seatpost. Russell Burton / Our Media The CG-R seatpost features 18mm of vertical compliance via a vibration damping carbon construction. The CG-R promises comfort and efficiency without adding weight or complication to the frame. The CG-R also has a cylindrical aluminum head assembly that adjusts fore and aft, and tilts with a single bolt. It’s possible to vary the saddle angle between the two positions, with the nose of the saddle being 1, 3, or 5 degrees lower when in the forwards position.“

The other dropper option is the PNW Coast, which has 40mm of suspension travel and is the best-value dropper, by far.All that said, I personally prefer the two elastomer-based suspension posts I’ve tried. Similar to a well-tuned suspension fork, the elastomer posts seem to settle into their travel instead of being squishy and active all the time. As such, they provide more support off the top, and only become active when pushed (or when bumped). I spent a lot of time on the eeSilk, which is the most minimal, of course, and provides the least amount of cushion. But I also liked the new 4th gen Thudbuster and will be curious to see how the elastomer holds up over time. And finally, the air seatpost improved things a bit (6% improvement) but clearly requires a higher bump force to activate than other suspension seatposts. I wanted to maintain the same riding position when using the drop bars as before, so I chose not to lower my bars when installing the post. My elbow pads are already slammed down as low as they can go on the bars (as shown in the ‘Inline Extension Mounting’ version in the image on the right), so I couldn’t lower my aerobar position as some people might choose to do to take full advantage of having a more forwards saddle position. I have a proprietary Giant seatpost on my gravel bike, so unfortunately the Redshift post won’t work there 🙁

The Cirrus KINEKT 2.1 is an aluminum suspension seatpost that’s designed to isolate your body from surface vibrations and impacts to improve comfort and control. Each post comes with two extra springs so you can mix and match, creating a custom experience. The KINEKT post springs are available in five color-coded tensions for riders ranging from 50-320 pounds. Many of the popular models of dropper posts used on mountain bikes don’t work perfectly unless they’re setup correctly and well maintained. Fortunately, the RedShift post is far simpler and works smoothly every time with no special setup or care needed. One thing I really liked about the Kinekt is the saddle rail clamp. It has two simple screws to tighten and adjust the saddle. There’s a spring that keeps tension to separate the lower and upper plate. This self-fixes the nuts into place so you don’t have to hold them while loosening or tightening the plate into place. A nice touch. The 5 cm difference between the two saddle positions mimics the change in frame geometry between typical road and triathlon bikes, but this is the one thing that I’d like to change. I’d prefer it if the difference was about 3 cm.
