About this deal

Nicolaidi, Mike (March 1987). "The dog has his day". Cinema Papers. p.8 . Retrieved 9 October 2022. The cinematography complemented some glorious scenery…before it was wiped out of course, and the soundscape enveloped me in all of the action playing out before me.

Tyson, Neil deGrasse (6 June 2014). " '2001' and beyond: Neil deGrasse Tyson names his top 10 sci-fi films". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved 16 June 2015. Walter Goodman of The New York Times wrote, "...it's easy to watch most of the time and never positively painful." [9] Variety wrote, "One of New Zealand's top directors, Geoff Murphy has taken a man-alone theme and turned it imaginatively to strong and refreshing effect in The Quiet Earth." [10] Sheila Benson of the Los Angeles Times called Lawrence's screen presence "electrifying". [11] This is where the proverbial hits the fan, the mountains move as Hung changes the battery on his sensor, and it starts transmitting all the data, ‘unusual activity’. The mountains split and so does the ground, as the town is split asunder by the forces of nature. Stunts and effects are the nature of the film from now on as they all work to save the bridge and tunnel and the town and all those lives. Lots of subterranean action in this all out disaster movie. Although “Shattered” is a relatively short movie, it takes too long for Prieto and Loughery to put all these pieces into play — at which point the story belatedly does develop some tension, as we learn more about who these people are and how far they’re willing to go to get what they want. In its first hour, too much of the picture is centered on Chris, who despite the problems in his personal life (like how much he misses his ex-wife and their daughter) just isn’t that compelling a hero. Put together a group of survivors using your own leadership skills, and interact with them in many different ways to survive.I have a soft spot for the disaster films of the 70s; I grew up watching them with my father. Who doesn`t remember the emotional journey in The Poseidon Adventure, when Shelly Winters is diving from one platform to the other. You know what the outcome will be for her character. I like to see people overcome impossible odds, having to band together for survival. This for me is what makes a disaster action movie. Shattered Earth has all these layers, for the journey you take with these ordinary people, that has to dig deep for courage to overcome natural disaster. Travel to dangerous places with companions, find and meet new intriguing characters along the way, and participate in the many side quests that they present you with. Benson, Sheila (18 October 1985). "Movie Review: 'Earth,' Star Are Out of This World". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved 16 June 2015. Isn’t it always the case…you spend 10 years building an expensive new tunnel, then just when you think all the hard work is done, along comes a series of natural disasters that threaten the lives of everyone trapped in there.

Krug brings a lot of verve to Sky, but her spiky energy isn’t matched by Monaghan’s Chris, who as written is more of a generic rich drip. There’s much more happening in “Shattered” on the margins, with quirky supporting performances by Ash Santos as Sky’s frazzled roommate (and occasional lover) Lisa and John Malkovich as the ladies’ sleazy, opportunistic landlord. Frank Grillo also brings some spark when he arrives late in the film, playing a pivotal character. The Quiet Earth", Cineforum, 29: 19, 1989, Infatti, The Quiet Earth è quasi il remake del classico The World, the Flesh and the Devil…

The visual effects for the most part of very effective with only a few scenes which took me out of the moment for a bit, while the English language dubbing is questionable at times, raising the odd giggle when a character was saying something dramatic…but in a voice that really didn’t seem natural. Always try to watch movies in their original language (with subtitles of course) if you can. Zhu Yilong and Huang Zhizhong played a father and son in the movie, through the storyline, they completed the transmission of the spirit of the times. Their acting brought many surprises in the rivalry scenes with each other. In particular, Zhu Yilong, who has completed many difficult action scenes, also showed a richer character charisma in the scenes with Huang Zhizhong. It is both heart-warming and affectionate, and it collides with many wonderful sparks, which makes me both excited and moved. Shattered Earth (AKA Cloudy Mountain) delivers on all of those…not always as well as in other disaster movies I’ve watched, but well enough to keep me fully engaged throughout its (slightly overlong) 114 minutes running time. Today, the world-renowned "infrastructure madman" has advanced technology and is more capable of ensuring the safety of the people and the project. Does China's infrastructure armed with all kinds of super equipment still have the inheritance of the selfless dedication and sacrifice of the railway soldiers? When disaster strikes, the answer is out.
