About this deal

We’ve had this superb microphone on long-term review and are now ready to share our thoughts and impressions of this charismatic and stylish microphone with you. The extremely short response time of the Earthworks microphone capsule at the heart of the Ethos ensures that every performance sounds like the real thing. These discounts are usually communicated through newsletters, which are created and managed by us with the tool "Emarsys". Removing the foam filter gives the sound some extra air, and unless you work the mic very close, popping doesn’t seem to be a big problem, so I quite often used it that way. I wanted someone to be able to throw it onto a mic stand without having to get the mic into a shockmount and position the windscreen.

Indeed, it’s very easy to listen to the ETHOS for long periods of time; a testament to the mic’s transparency and low distortion. They’re designed to capture the transients with the utmost clarity, allowing the mic to sound more true to life and realistic to the source. There's nothing unusual about this connection or its requirements, and the results coming up soon will verify their necessity.

I'm not going to do the thing where I give you the full history of Neumann microphones and how the U 67 fits into it. The Ethos is a sure bet if you want a mic that sounds as neutral as possible but can deliver that warm FM broadcasting tone. Its 50 to 20,000Hz frequency range isn't up to par with the Ethos, but you get another fantastic foam widescreen for similar plosive prevention. Because of its internal damping and sturdy stainless-steel design, ETHOS is inherently resistant to handling noise and thumps. The information obtained through cookies allows us to compile ad performance statistics and serve retargeting ads on The Trade Desks advertising network. The ETHOS B has off-axis rejection for reducing room noise but is likely more forgiving than the MKH 416 in terms of capturing voice when the head turns. My voice had a weight, presence and crispness that was in sharp contrast to anything I’d used before. The ETHOS is fitted with a fixed Triad-Orbit ball joint mic stand attachment that makes positioning the mic in just about any orientation a snap. The ETHOS might have the ability to capture frequencies other mics can’t, then, but it isn’t an obviously bright‑sounding or shrill mic. Anyone connecting two Ethos mics into a simple 2-port mixer would be well on their way to an interview setup for a professional podcast.

Windows Central is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. The self-noise level is just 16db SPL (A weighted) and the handling noise is also low; it’s perfectly possible to use the Ethos on a boom arm without a shock mount. For acoustic guitar, I recorded with a high-pass filter and applied EQ to reduce some of the warmth range around 500 Hz while boosting a touch of highs, but it sat right in the mix and was sounding very nice.

In fact, some of its most industry-leading products are measurement microphones, designed to capture detail with the utmost accuracy. Another reason for the Ethos mic's excellent performance is its super-cardioid polar pickup pattern. With the ETHOS, you sound like you but with the added depth and presence and tone that makes spoken word recordings sound professional. The pins are in no danger of damage, fitted flush into its body with a notch for the usual locking mechanism found on standard cables. This condenser design handles like a dynamic mic but can capture exceptional detail, nuance and character.
